Gjurgjaj: A Historic Day for Macedonians in Albania; Resolution Submitted by the Macedonian Association “Ilinden”-Tirana Unanimously Approved by the Federal Union of European Nationalities

The resolution calls upon the Republic of Albania to sign and ratify the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages, to take effective measures to protect the Macedonian identity from denial and assimilation, to maintain the Municipality of Pustec as a distinct local self-government unit within the framework of the new administrative-territorial reform, and to rename the Municipality of Pustec to the Municipality of Prespa.

The Federal Union of European Nationalities (FUEN) unanimously approved the resolution submitted by the Macedonian Association “Ilinden”-Tirana—writes Nikolla Gjurgjaj, President of the Macedonian Association “Ilinden”-Tirana, on his Facebook profile.

The resolution calls for the Republic of Albania to sign and ratify the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages; for effective measures to be taken to protect the Macedonian identity from denial and assimilation; for the Municipality of Pustec to remain a distinct local self-government unit within the framework of the new administrative-territorial reform; and for the Municipality of Pustec to be renamed the Municipality of Prespa.

The resolution, as Gjurgjaj writes, will be submitted to Albanian and international institutions.

“This is a significant step for preserving the Macedonian language, identity, and culture, as well as the rights of Macedonians in the Republic of Albania,” writes Nikolla Gjurgjaj.

The first postcard “Farewell from Prespa” dedicated to the Prespa region has been published. It contains 8 photographs of the villages of this region, an important contribution to the preservation and promotion of the Macedonian cultural heritage, which is the authorial work of Nikolla Gjurgjaj, president of the Macedonian Association “Ilinden”-Tirana and editor-in-chief of the Macedonian Newspaper “Ilinden”.

The postcard will be distributed throughout the Republic of Albania, representing an important contribution to the preservation and promotion of the cultural heritage of the Macedonians in the Republic of Albania.
